Are you getting excited about the upcoming Paris 2024 Summer Olympics? If nothing else, what a fabulous reason to come to France this summer! But maybe the hustle and bustle of Paris just isn’t for you. In which case, you can still experience some of the Olympian sporting prowess, outside the capital!
Hiding in plain sight, right at the very heart of France, is the stunning department of Indre. With vast lakes, enchanting chateaux, a varied landscape, and some delicious wine and cheeses, it’s everything you love about France yet off the beaten track. And this year there is even more reason to visit! The Paris 2024 Olympics are coming this way!
Hosting The Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Flame
One of the ways of experiencing this ancient occasion (even if you don’t want to catch any of the sporting events), is to witness the Olympic flame, as it makes its way from Greece to Paris. The department of Indre is hosting the Olympic Flame on Monday 27 May 2024.
Plan your glamping break accordingly – you could have the opportunity to witness this iconic symbol of unity and inspiration up close. Join the local community in celebrating this momentous occasion as it passes through some stunning landscapes, before retreating to the tranquility of La Prairie Étoilée for an evening under the stars.
Here’s The Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Flame Route
The flame will depart Le Blanc at 8am. Next it will head to Cuzion-Baraize where it will cross the river at our favourite, wild swimming spot. After that it will head on to our local town of La Chatre. La Chatre is a vibrant, medieval market town and home to George Sand, the famous 19th Century writer.
The flame will then travel onwards to Buzancais, Issoudun, and Valençay. Each are fabulous places to visit. Not least Valençay, home of the prestigious chateau and double AOC wine and goats cheese! And last but not least, Deols in Chateauroux.
The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics Shooting Events are being held at Chateauroux!
The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics shooting events are all being held at The National Centre of Shooting Sports in Chateauroux. Not only the capital of the Indre, its also only 50 minutes from La Prairie Étoilée Glamping. This close proximity to the action makes it very possible to attend these amazing sporting events and combine with evenings sipping wine, by the campfire, under a big starry sky!
- Olympic Shooting Events – 27 July to 5 August 2024 (340 athletes) and
- Paralympic Shooting Events – 30 August to 5 September (160 athletes)
There are 15 Olympic shooting events across the three disciplines of, rifle, pistol and shotgun. Each event has a qualifying phase followed by a final. Some of these thrilling competitions can take up to 3 hours to conclude, with competitors maintaining concentration and their nerve throughout, in the pursuit of ultimate precision and a coveted Olympic medal!
Our favourite is the Skeet competition – or clay pigeon shooting. Our good friends took us skeet shooting as our pre wedding treat. We are thrilled these Olympic events are going to be so close to home – we have everything crossed that we’ll be able to get tickets!
